FebzZS. Do you need to connect your Xiaomi phones to your computer? You will need this compatible USB driver. Selecting a good and compatible driver software may seem easy. However, picking up an old driver may lead to an issue that makes your computer cannot recognize your device properly. Hence, we have listed below a bloatware-free drivers tool to establish successful ADB and a Fastboot connection between your computer and your MIUI devices. A computer, Windows especially, does not need a special driver since your computer will recognize your device out of the box. This general computer-to-phone connection usually established in either charging mode or MTP mode. This allows you to either charge your phone’s battery or to transfer files. However, in different scenarios, you may want to establish an advanced connection such as ADB and Fastboot. Both types of phone-to-computer connection are an advanced mode that allows you to do advanced tasks with your phone such as installing firmware or ROM, flashing a custom recovery, or taking full Android data backup. Google provides all the necessary drivers and tools which are included in the Android Studio software bundle. Luckily, Google also extracted another driver bundle from the software that includes only the essential drivers. Therefore, you do not need to download and install the full Android Studio and SDK Manager in advanced. Moreover, there are also many third-party versions created by some developers bundled in an installer which makes it easy for novice users to have the required ADB and Fastboot files installed. One of the well-known installers is the 15-second installer by Snoop05 from XDA community. Which one to use? Using the installer will be the easiest one. However, the package includes ADB and Google USB Driver Both may already obsolete for the most recent flagship devices running Android Pie or above. Our recommendation is to use the one distributed by Google since it gets regular updates. Nevertheless, if your device is running Android Nougat or older, using the ADB Installer is sufficient. Notes for modern and flagship devices (Mi 5, Mi 5X, Mi 6, Mi 6X, Mi 8, Mi 8 EE/Pro/Lite/SE, Poco F1, Mi Mix 2S, etc): First, we recommend you to install the latest version of Mi Flash tool since it includes all the required drivers. Use this only as an alternative in case your computer cannot properly establish a connection with your device. If you are an advanced user with just enough knowledge about adb fastboot, you can simply use the Android Platform Tools. If you are a newbie, we recommend you to first use the 15-second installer just to install the ADB system-wide. Then use the extracted Platform Tools to establish the ADB-Fastboot connection. We also strongly suggest to first disable Windows Driver Signature Enforcement. We wrapped the full tutorial on how to disable it here. Some unsuccessful installations might be caused by this default security mechanism being enabled, especially on x64-based system. New updates are being added at the bottom of this story……. The MIX series of Xiaomi is a perfect example of materializing out of the track, revolutionary ideas in life. Be it one of the first ‘bezel less’ phones or carrying the first generation 5G cellular radio – Xiaomi created a niche with the design centric MIX lineup. Mi MIX (2016) Initially marketed as limited edition experimental device, Xiaomi quickly made the MIX series as a worthy alternative of original flagship Mi phones. In 2017, Mi MIX 2 experienced a wider release across the globe, including India. The Chinese OEM decided to apply a series of minor improvements on top of MIX 2 and unveiled MIX 2S merely six months from the arrival of the former. They also enrolled MIX 2S in the public beta testing of Android Pie (known as simply ‘P’ at that time). Mi MIX 2S While Mi MIX 2S continues to get stable Android Pie update and various other MIUI related improvements (such as dark mode, lockscreen clock and updated security patches), the original MIX 2 is being neglected in terms of software update. Back in May, an internal beta build of MIUI, based on Android Pie, was leaked for Mi MIX 2. After a few weeks, Xiaomi started to ship Pie based public beta builds for the phone in China and other regions. Mi MIX 2 running Pie beta Now that the public beta program was closed by Xiaomi, there is no way to access updated Pie based MIUI for MIX 2 owners. No need to worry though, as the company is finally bringing stable Pie update for the phone in the form of MIUI build. Don’t let the Chinese texts confuse you, as the global MIX 2 units are also getting the same update. Xiaomi also bundled the June security patches in this new build. The full changelog is as follows: Attention – Stable MIUI based on Android Pie comes to Mi MIX2! System – Optimization: Updated Android Security Patch to June 2019. Increased system security. App lock – New: Locking Google contacts is available now Being a major Android version update, there is no incremental (smaller) OTA. You have to download the full package (~ GB) to get the sweet taste of Pie on your phone. Not a problem for our readers though, as they can easily download the ZIP from the following section. Update 5/12/18: It appears that the UI changes were only for the latest MIUI 9 build for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The same MIUI build for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro do not contain the UI changes shown below. The article has been updated to reflect this new information. With the introduction of Android P, Xiaomi released a near-stock build of Android P for the Mi Mix 2S. While we still aren’t sure what the next version of MIUI will look like, it appears that an upcoming version of MIUI 9 will bring a redesign to the lock screen, notifications, recent apps, quick settings, volume panel, and more. Version of MIUI 9 has leaked online for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 (based on Android Oreo) and a few users have taken it for a spin to show off what the redesign looks like. The screenshots above are from MIUI 9 (build on the Mi Mix 2. As you can see, there’s a new design in a lot of system UI components. The Quick Settings has adopted round toggles just like we have in the latest Android P Developer Preview. Even the notifications are more rounded and card-like, which is another thing we have in Android P. The volume panel is now a vertical bar on the right-side of the screen, also like Android P. The recent apps list has also been changed from a horizontal view to a 2×2 card view. MIUI traditionally doesn’t look much like stock Android, so this is an interesting development. Below is a video showing off the interface changes, courtesy of @XiaomiUI. The MIUI 9 build is available to download below. The build comes courtesy of automated page for scraping MIUI nightlies for certain Xiaomi devices. In order to install the latest build for the devices, you’ll need to have an unlocked bootloader.
